Back to my roots

So I've been doing this workout program P90X for almost 6 weeks now. I'm sure you've seen the beach body infomercials with these ridiculously buff chicks who can probably bench me. My goal was to tone, just tighten up a bit. Well, all that's happened is the gain of a couple pounds. Not happy. I know, I know, everyone tells me "that's great, you're gaining muscle". Well not so much. I have muscle, don't need anymore. Just need to TONE. So week 5 of my P90X program I decided to switch it up and forget Tony Horton's schedule and make my own. I did my twice-a-day workouts but instead of all the weight training, I stuck to the cardio dvd's in the morning and at night ran on the elliptical for a 45 minute program, did the Ab dvd and my own light weight training. On Tuesday's and Thursday's I walk/jog 4.5 miles with my mom. That was great for a week, but I still felt like I needed something more, something different...and finally it occurred to me. When was I the most fit in my life? High school!

So I'm back to my roots, swimming. And I LOVE it! It totally takes me back to my teen years. I started the class last Thursday and it was at my alma mater, which made it even more nostalgic. It was so weird getting back in my not-so-flattering speedo, putting a cap and goggles on and getting into the same pool I spent 4 years of high school in. My fitness coaches were like 10 years younger than me, which was funny, but they worked me out. Drill after drill. The warm down was a 500k, which is 20 laps. I pretty much laughed out loud when she said that. Like I could swim that much without stopping, ha! I tried anyway, and surprisingly it was no biggy and I actually sprinted the last 2 laps in like a race. This week, I'm at different pools and with a new trainer. I was a little scared to train with this guy since he's a prior olympian trainer! But I'm actually really lucky. Right now the class hasn't picked up and I'm the only one so I'm getting private training from a guy who charges something like $80 per private lesson and I paid less than that for a whole month! The class is going great, he works the crap out of me but that's what I want. Gotta feel the burn to see the results! So we'll see, I'm pretty confident I'm going to get what I want from the class and so is my instructor. It feels pretty good, at almost 26, to get in the pool after not swimming for 9 years and have a professional tell you you're great and are clearly an athlete. Guess I've still got "it"! LOL

(I'll try and dig up some old high school swim pictures for some humor, stay posted...)

I knew it...

I'd never keep up with blogging. Actually, I didn't think anyone even looked at this until someone asked me if I was ever going to put anything new up. So, I'm gonna try again and update this regularly. Round 2 here I go!

We want tacos!

I went to my first pro-basketball game a couple weeks ago and it was pretty fun! Well, being that they won made it that much sweeter. And the fact that we got our Free Taco coupons for Jack-in-the-box! It's pretty funny how much people must love those little fried things. The last few minutes turned from cheering "Lets go Lakers" to cheering "We want tacos" which happens if the Lakers score 100 points. What's even funnier is watching my husband see how many coupons he can collect on the way out. Like we really need 20 coupons for 99 cent tacos! But hey, at least now we have a stash of them in our drawer incase we ever get a late night craving and run out of change! Thanks babe!

Little sushi roll

The newest addition to our family! We got him a couple months after we got married. It took some serious begging on my part, but eventually Chad caved! He was so tiny...and actually still is. Everyone he meets is convinced he's either a puppy or a toy breed. I think it's part genes and the other part a super strict diet. Little piggy would be a 100 lbs by now if I let him eat everytime he thought he was hungry! We like to call him Rolly (those of you that remember 101 Dalmations know what I'm talking about). His favorite things are either cuddling with me or rough-housing with Chad. He's a great dog!

only 10 or so weeks old

May 27, 2007

We got married! It's funny...after months of planning and organizing, when it finally arrives none of that matters anymore. Don't get me wrong, I think our wedding was absolutely perfect, but a million things could have gone wrong that day and I wouldn't have even cared. All I saw was my best friend Chad. Best day of my life thus far! I think everyone's seen all the pictures by this point, so here's just a few and a little video our awesome photographer **plug-Jim Kennedy** made for us. Enjoy ♥

I finally caved

And made a blog! After going through about 50 different templates, blog names and color schemes since 2007 (Monica, Monica, Monica) I finally decided to actually post something. The original plan was to start this after Chad and I got married, well, we're now into 2009 so it's safe to say I'm just a bit behind. So, the first chunk of this will be a recap of the past year or so. Hopefully by the time I finish that I won't have given up and can actually start posting some of the current stuff. But who knows, considering my track record so far this might be my only post :)
Hope you enjoy reading about our life as much as we love livin' it!
